Tips for Keeping a Healthy Cat

If you have a feline friend, you are probably enjoying the playing, jumping, and sometimes the curling up by your feet. If you want your cat to be around for a while to continue their daily routine, you will want to make sure that they are healthy. There are things that you can do in order to ensure that they stay looking their best and acting like a cat.

The first set of things that you will need to do for your cat is to make sure that they are getting the right amount of nutrients in their diet. There are a variety of cat foods, some which are better than others. You will want to make sure that you find one that you know will have the right balance of substance in it. The most important substance to give your cat is meat. The meat that they eat should have a high amount of protein, taurine and Vitamin A as well as fatty acids that help them to sustain the right nutrients. From here, you can decide on the best brand for your cat’s health.

Another important thing to do for your cat is to make sure that their general health stays in good condition. You can easily do this by bathing and grooming your cat. You can find shampoos made specifically for cats almost anywhere. These are filled with extra nutrients to keep their skin healthy and to prevent fleas. You should also make sure to brush out your cat’s hair. Every time that you brush your cat’s hair it will move the oils and nutrients in different areas of their skin, which will help them to stay healthier from the outside in.

Serious Health for Cats

Usually, cat’s are easy to maintain with these few things. However, a healthy cat will also need to be taken care of with potential problems that are more serious. You will usually notice if a cat has health problems by a change in behavior or look. If you think there is a problem, you will want to take them to the vet to make sure that it is nothing too serious.

In order to prevent anything serious from happening, you will want to make sure to take your cat in for a routine check-up. Your cat needs vaccinations once a year, unless otherwise specified, in order to prevent health problems as well as to keep them active for a long time.

The first vaccination you will want to get your cat is feline leukemia virus, referred to as FeLV. This is a virus that is passed between two cats. This can cause infections, tumors, anemia and other problems, sometimes which aren’t apparent for years. Whether your cat has been around other cats or has a litter of kittens, always make sure to ask about FeLV.

Another vaccination you will want to look into for your cat is the FRCP. This particular vaccine is designed to protect cats from three major diseases that can be fatal to cats. Most of these are associated with respiratory and digestive problems which can affect your cat. You will then want to combine FRCP with vaccinations with prevention for worms and parasites, as these are common in cats.

By looking at the needs of your cat, you will easily be able to care for their needs and give them the best possibilities for their health. In order to keep your cat active, playful and by your feet for a longer period of time, make sure that you take care of the foundational needs. A healthy cat will have the ingredients to stay at their best.
