Three Basic Cookie Recipes Everyone Should Know

Your Basic Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Second only to apple pie, chocolate chip cookies are about as patriotic as baked foods can get. A basic recipe shouldn’t be too far away from anyone’s fingertips. There are countless variations on the classic chocolate chip cookie recipe, but here is a good one to start with.

Necessary ingredients include ½ cup butter, two cups all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon baking soda, one teaspoon baking powder, one ounce unsweetened chocolate, ¼ teaspoon salt, two eggs, 1 ¼ cups white sugar, one teaspoon vanilla extract and 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips. To cook, first preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Melt unsweetened chocolate together with the butter. In a separate bowl, sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. In another medium bowl, beat sugar, eggs and vanilla. Combine the chocolate mixture in the medium bowl until well blended. Stir in the sifted ingredients followed by the chocolate chips. Using a spoon, form balls of the dough and arrange them on an un-greased cookie sheet and bake them for eight to ten minutes.

A No Bake Cookie Recipe

No Bake cookie recipes are popular with kids because they are so easy to make and don’t involve the use of an oven. Kids can help with the mixing and can help roll the dough into balls. Because you aren’t baking them, it means they are perfect for a hot summer day when you don’t want to turn on the oven.

Ingredients include ½ cup butter, ½ cup packed brown sugar, one teaspoon grated orange rind, ½ cup orange juice, ½ cup chopped walnuts and two cups quick-cooking dry oatmeal. First, melt the butter on the stove in a shallow sauce pan. Add the brown sugar to the butter, as well as the orange rind and orange juice, stirring until the sugar is dissolved all the way. Take the saucepan off of the stove and away from heat and add in the nuts and oatmeal. Put the entire mixture in the refrigerator for one hour, and then mold the dough into rough balls. This recipe will make about 40 cookies.

Chinese Noodle Cookie Recipe

For a more exotic cookie recipe, try Chinese noodle cookies. These unique cookies will have everyone asking for the recipe and are perfect for a special occasion when you want to stand out from the crowd.

For these, necessary ingredients include 12 ounces butterscotch chips, 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips, 16 ounces dry roasted nuts and five ounces Chinese noodles. First melt the butterscotch chips and chocolate chips together in a medium saucepan on the stove. Mix in the remaining ingredients. Drop the mixture by the spoonful onto a cookie sheet and refrigerate until the cookies are firm, and enjoy! This will make a different sort of treat to break from the monotony of ordinary cookies.
